Julie Winokur: Writer, Director, and Producer
Writer Julie Winokur's stories have appeared in the The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times Magazine, Salon, Natural History,
Audubon, Travel & Leisure, Publisher's Weekly, Culturefront, the Sunday magazines of the Seattle Times and the San Jose Mercury News,
and many others. She is the writer and project director for Aging in America: The Years Ahead, a seven-year multi-media look at the impact of aging on society. This
series has been widely published and won top awards from the National Press Club, the American Society on Aging, and the National Press Photographers Association.
The book for Aging in America was published by powerHouse in Fall 2003, at which time Winokur's documentary film on the project was released. Her previous book,
We the Media: A Citizen's Guide to Fighting for Media Democracy (New Press), looked at the corporate influence over media content. She was also managing
editor of Inside the L.A. Riots (Institute for Alternative Journalism), a book that examines the roots of racial conflict in Los Angeles. Her work has been
supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Open Society Institute, and the California Endowment.
Ed Kashi: Photographer
Photographer Ed Kashi's stories appear regularly in National Geographic,
The New York Times Magazine, Time, The Atlantic Monthly, Fortune, Geo, Newsweek, LIFE, Smithsonian, U.S. News & World Report, MSNBC.com, and many other domestic and international publications. He
has published two books, The Protestants: No Surrender, concerning the troubles in Northern Ireland, and When the Borders Bleed: The Struggle of the
Kurds (Pantheon). His last book Aging in America: The Years Ahead was published by powerHouse in Fall 2003. This body of work has garnered Kashi awards from the National Press Club, the National Press Photographers Association, the World Press, and Pictures of the Year. In addition to those awards, he has received awards from such institutions as the World Affairs Council and the NEA. His work has been supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Open Society Institute, and the California Endowment.
Kristin Reimer: Studio Manager
Since January 2005, Kristin Reimer's responsibilities as studio manager for Ed Kashi Photography have included editing, general office coordination, publication submissions, and curatorial and archival work. She is also the founder of Photomuse, a fine art / documentary style wedding and portrait photography company. Kristin is an award-winning member of both the international organization The Wedding Photojournalists Association (WPJA) and its Artistic Guild (AGWPJA), and she has been recognized with an International Photography Award (IPA). After receiving a degree in photography from Pratt Institute, Kristin worked for 8 years as studio manager for Magnum photographer, Elliott Erwitt, where she was involved in production, casting, and gallery coordination.
Carol DeVoe: Associate Producer
Carol DeVoe worked as an assistant director / researcher for CNN’s Freeman Reports, and she supervised the content and production of dozens of theatrical and broadcast trailers for Vestron Pictures and Tony Silver films. Over an eight-year span, Carol produced hundreds of commercials for Ogilvy & Mather in New York City before applying her skills to help fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa. As media director for the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Foundation, she helped organize the Zambia National Forum for Children. While working in South Africa and Zambia, Carol shot footage that culminated in the documentary film Nkosi: A Voice of Africa’s AIDS Orphans. This co-production with Globalvision premiered on PBS in 2002, and has been utilized by the United Nations and other educational institutions. In 2002, Carol launched Rosadele Productions to produce Lynching of an American Dream: The Life of Anthony P. Crawford.
Michael Curry: Digital Assistant
Michael Curry received a degree in Digital Arts from The College of New Jersey in 2005. Upon graduating, Michael began working within the Chelsea Art Community at the Andrea Rosen Gallery as an assistant archivist and art handler. Michael now works as Ed Kashi Photography's digital assistant. His responsibilities include digital management of all photographs, photo / graphics coordination, photo calibration, printing, and assisting with all exhibition preparations and publication submissions. Michael splits his time between the studio and his own pursuits of documentary film making, portraiture, and music photography.
