This is a story about the power of one man to positively impact hundreds of children through basketball. When Willie Johnson decided to put a basketball court in his front yard 27 years ago, he had no intention of reshaping the dynamic of his neighborhood, mentoring at least two generations of young boys, or influencing their educational and professional outcomes. But that's exactly what happened. Over the years, Johnson's half-court grew into a full court, and he became known in Detroit as the man who provided a safe haven for kids when the neighborhood parks became too dangerous. The rules are simple: No fighting; No cursing; No sagging pants. And if kids can't keep up in school, Johnson is there to keep them moving forward and demanding more from themselves and for their future.
