Tomorrow

Commissioned by the Hermitage Artist Retreat to mark the 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s death, this experimental short film re-imagines the day before his assassination.

The upturn will still be sizable (but not as exuberant as otherwise).

Commissioned by the Hermitage Artist Retreat to mark the 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s death, this experimental short film re-imagines the day before his assassination.

In November 1963, US News & World Report published a state-of-the-country “Newsgram” titled TOMORROW - A Look Ahead (that included our title). Distinctly upbeat and glossy, we were struck by this public statement’s contrast to the actual tensions of the time. Our work draws from archival imagery and audio to explore the incongruity between Camelot and the crises that were brewing the day before Kennedy’s assassination.

TOMORROW is created by Julie Winokur in collaboration with Daniel Levy, who is a composer for 40+ New York and regional productions of new and classic plays, musicals, and opera with Red Bull, La MaMa, Dance Theater Workshop, HERE Arts Center, BAX, New Dramatists Composer-Librettist Workshop, Manhattan Ensemble Theater, Cucaracha, York Theater, Shakespeare & Co., Orlando Shakespeare Festival, Imagination Stage, Juilliard and Fordham University Lincoln Center, including The Singing (Richard Rogers Award).
