VOW FOR GIRLS

GIRLS FIRST FUND

VOW for Girls funds local community organizations that are helping girls avoid child marriage. They garner support and funds from the wedding industry, brand partners, and couples getting married, which they redirect toward organizations around the world.

In 2022, we created three short films documenting two organizations in the Dominican Republic that are supported by VOW for Girls’ Girls First Fund for their work empowering and educating young women and girls in their communities.

Mujeres Sociopolíticas Mamá Tingó

In Edith’s community, child marriage has been normalized for generations. Her own mother had her first child at age 12. But, armed with information about sexual and reproductive health from a young age, Edith was able to break that cycle.

Today, Edith works with Mujeres Sociopolíticas Mamá Tingó to help communities develop a healthier environment that is free of violence, more equitable, and safer for women and for girls.

Junta de Mujeres Mamá Tingó

Many of fourteen-year-old Johanny’s friends are already married, some with children. But through her involvement with Junta de Mujeres Mamá Tingó she has learned that, “If a girl gets married at a young age, she doesn't have the economic, physical or mental resources to deal with a family.”

Junta de Mujeres works to prevent child marriage and early unions, focusing on girls’ economic independence.

Melián

Melián dreams of becoming a writer or a designer. Having witnessed her older sister struggle after leaving school to marry and have children at a young age, she has a renewed focus on her education, determined to keep working toward her goals.

Mujeres Sociopolíticas Mamá Tingó empowers young women in the community, working toward a safer environment for women and girls.
