In 2016 Maen Mahfoud founded Replate, a nonprofit using robust technology to connect businesses with surplus food to community-based organizations who request food for the people they serve. As of 2022, Replate has recovered 3.3 million pounds of food and provided 2.75 million meals—effectively diverting 3,377 tons of CO2 from the environment and saving 902 million gallons of water.
